Random Acts of Kindness Week

The month of February is all about expressing your love to those you know, but how about try to show kindness to those we don’t know?

February 15 -21, 2010 is Random Acts of Kindness Week so celebrate this week with doing kind deeds for friends and strangers.  Kind deeds are always self-rewarding so you will benefit just as much.

Easy Random Acts of Kindness:

  • Return a shopping cart to the store for someone who is loading the car with groceries
  • Tip well
  • Tell a stranger that they are doing a great job, whether its a lawn guy, custodian at a store, grocery bagger, or clerk
  • Give the fast-food attendant a few extra dollars to go towards the person in the car behind you
  • Give an extra coupon to someone in line behind you.  For instance, when I have extra Macy’s or Old Navy coupons, pass the extra ones out to help others.  People are very appreciative of the savings.
  • Do a chore for your spouse that he or she would normally do
  • Pick some flowers and drop them off at your neighbors
  • Drop off some unexpected food or dessert to your neighbor
  • Have your child decorate a card and give it to your neighbor or a perfect stranger to brighten their day
  • Write a card of thanks for your local police, fire station, and military troops
  • Write a note to someone telling them how much you appreciate them and were thinking of them
  • Volunteer in a soup kitchen, drop off food to a food bank or donate items to the homeless shelter
  • Give a compliment to a waiter or a clerk’s manager on behalf of the employee
  • Put a quarter in a parking meter that has expired
  • Leave a note of thanks to your mail person
  • Hold the door open for others
  • Offer to share your umbrella with someone if its raining
  • Easiest one of all- give a smile to others
  • Eat at a local restaurant or dinner that you know is struggling for business in this economy.  Maybe encourage friends to meet you there as well for a meal
  • Call someone you haven’t talked to in a while and let them know you were thinking of them

I know that it seems like many of the suggestions involve money and they might not be feasible for you to complete.  However, one easy and very effective act of kindness is to pay another with a compliment.
