Consumer Product Safety Commission Recalls 2.1 Million Drop-Side Cribs
If you have a drop-side crib, then you need to check the manufacturer of the crib and the type of hardware used. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled 2.1 Million Stork Craft cribs because of the injuries to several infants and even some deaths.
Stork Craft is one of the most widely purchased brand names in baby cribs and 147,000 Stork Craft cribs produced under the Fischer-Price logo are included in the recall.
The cribs being recalled were sold in specialty and major stores throughout Canada and the U.S. Some of the major retailers who sold the these recalled cribs includes Wal-Mart, Kmart, BJ’s Wholesale Club, J.C. Penney, Sears, USA Baby, Meijer and through Target and Costco online.
The Stork Craft cribs with the drop-side has plastic hardware that can break or deform. Also, it’s easy to install the drop-side upside down and this error in installation can cause the parts to detach or break. Infants could become trapped between the mattress and the drop-side.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s release, this recall doesn’t involve Stork Craft cribs with the fixed side. The recall involves the cribs with the plastic trigger and the one-hand-system drop-side. Also, the drop-side cribs with the metal rod hardware are not involved in the recall, but feel free to contact Stork Craft to verify.
People who already have one of these drop-side Stork Craft cribs are being instructed to contact Stork Craft to receive a free repair kit. The repair kit will convert the drop-side to a fixed side.
Until the repair kit is installed, parents are recommended to have different sleeping arrangements for their child. So, setup the pack-n-play and be thankful that your child hasn’t had any accidents or injuries.
My heart goes out to those families who were affected.
Contact Stork Craft toll-free at (877) 274-0277 anytime to order the free repair kit, or log on to www.storkcraft.com
