Do You Own Any Baby Einstein DVDs? If So, Read This.

Baby Einstein used to promote its DVDs as educational and many bought into the marketing of these products.  Parents were encouraged to purchase Baby Einstein DVDs since the classical music and visual images offered stimulation and were great for babies’ brain development.

The Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood (CCFC) claimed that Disney was engaging in false advertising and was being deceptive to parents about the products. After much dispute, Disney is offering refunds on the videos after challenges about whether the videos are in fact more harmful than educational to children.

Disney Refunds Baby Einstein DVDs

Disney Refunds Baby Einstein DVDs

Disney is now offering a full refund to those who purchased Baby Einstein DVDs between June 5, 2004 and Sept. 4, 2009.  You can refund up to four products per household.

According to The Baby Einstein Upgrade Offer, consumers who are not satisfied with their Baby Einstein DVD may exchange it for one of the following  for a limited time beginning on September 4, 2009 and ending on March 4, 2010:

  • One (1) Baby Einstein Book of your choice
  • One (1) Baby Einstein music CD of your choice
  • One (1) coupon for 25% off the purchase of one Little Einsteins™ product. Redeemable with promotion code only at DisneyStore.com
  • Or, you can return it and be refunded the current retail value of the DVD ($15.99)

I would think that most parents would know that human interaction could never be replaced with a DVD.  Hopefully too many parents didn’t put their baby in front of a DVD in hopes that they would become an Einstein.  However, I don’t agree with false and misleading advertising especially when it comes to babies and children.

Will you be requesting an exchange or a refund?

Did any parent really think a 30 min DVD of toys in action set to music was going to make a child smarter? I’ll bet we all used the DVDs for the same reason: 20 minutes of not having to be “on”, time to actually make a phone call, time to take a shower ALONE, time to wash dishes without someone clinging on, a few minutes to actually check out the “interwebs” and see what was happening outside the world of poo and strained foods.
If anyone is cashing in, more power to you. In the future caveat emptor.

Great comments and thank you for visiting! I know I have used television for many of those things too, especially to take a shower. :)
