Alcohol Free Hand Sanitizers for Kids
Last year there were many alerts in the news media about children getting alcohol poisoning from hand sanitizer. Some schools had discontinued its use and many parents were warned about allowing little ones to use it. I know that in addition to the news alerts, I had received phone calls and emails from relatives telling me not to have it in reach of the kids.
I realized that it was best not to use the alcohol hand sanitizer for my munchkins, since at the time I had a thumb-sucker and the other one was always feeding with her hands. However, not having anything to clean their hands after the playground or other outings was a dilemma so I had to find an alternative.
For my little ones, I use CleanWell and Smart and Silky hand sanitizer that I purchased at Target and that are both alcohol free. You will find them with the other hand sanitizers, not in the baby/kids section. Both products claim that they effectively kill 99.99% germs, which is the same amount of the regular hand sanitizer.
I don’t’ know why, but for some reason I feel that the hand sanitizer with alcohol would just do a better job at killing germs, but I do want to do what is safest for my kids. Eventually they will learn not to drink or consume the regular kind, so this will be a temporary solution and hopefully we will ward off some viruses.
