How Much Does Your Tooth Fairy Give?

My kids are not at the age where they have teeth falling out yet, but I am sure within the blink of an eye the time will come.

One of my friend’s sons was recently visited by the tooth fairy for the first time and she left him 25 cents.  Now, he was very excited about this shiny quarter, but my friend wasn’t sure she had done enough.

What if his peers tell him about a different amount that they received and how do you explain the difference?  It’s not like a visit from Santa Clause where most kids usually receive several gifts so they don’t compare with one another as much.

I have known other kids (not saying I agree with it) to receive anywhere from $1 to $100 per tooth. Now a $100 a tooth is a very expensive mouth and those teeth must be sparkling white!

Why can’t we all just have a standard amount so that we don’t have to come up with reasons to explain to our children why their tooth my not be as valuable as their friend Johnny’s?  What do you think? What should the standard tooth fairy visit be?
