Teach Children To Wash Their Hands Properly
With the flu season still lingering and holiday gatherings taking place, it is important to continue to focus on proper hand washing for your children and yourself. We need to wash our hands for about 20 seconds to really get the germs off.
Twenty seconds is hard for a child to gauge with their busy bodies, so it helps to say a nursery rhyme or sing a song. At the end of this post are some hand washing songs I found that might be helpful.
Inspector Hector Dirt Detector is color changing hand soap for kids that helps them wash their hands a little longer. I found it at Target in the regular soap aisle and I think it was around $3.00.
The Inspector Hector soap has colored beads in it that makes the soap change color while washing and rubbing hands together. First, wet your hands and then use one or two pumps of soap. Keep rubbing your hands together until the soap changes color. You know that your are done washing your hands once the soap changes color.

Hand Washing Songs (Sing once slowly or twice quickly)
Songs to the Tune of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat:”
Song 1:
Wash, Wash, Wash your hands.
Soap will make them clean.
Wash away, wash away,
The germs that are unseen.
Song 2:
Wash, wash, wash your hands,
Wash them nice and clean.
First the bottoms (pause and scrub each palm),
Then the tops (pause and scrub top of each hand),
And fingers in between (interlace fingers and scrub).
Song 3:
Wash, wash, wash your hands,
After work and play,
Scrub and rinse and
Shake and dry,
And wash those germs away!
Sung to the Tune of “Fre a Jachues”
Song 4:
Tops and bottoms
Tops and bottoms
In between
In between
All around my hands
All around my hands
Make them clean
Make them clean.
