Will Facebook Change The Way We Feel About High School Reunions?

With the thought of high school reunions the feelings of excitement and nervousness usually occur.  Some worry about their looks, their weight, and whether or not they get the approval of others with their career paths.  With Facebook and other social media networking sites,  we are reconnecting with old classmates in a way that we have never been able to do.  Will high school reunions still be the same?

With the Internet and programs like Facebook, we know where each other lives, if married or single, how many kids, occupation status, and usually what each other looks like if they post current photos.  In fact, if an individual is an active Facebook user, we tend to know what they had for dinner, where they traveled, what hobbies they have, other random information, and sometimes too much information.

I would assume that as more people use Facebook and reconnect with old friends, then the small talk and catching up at reunions will be out of the way and you can really enjoy each others company and just have fun.  Some people will still be a little anxious or nervous, but their will be fewer surprises and hopefully people will feel more comfortable with attending.

I missed my 10 year reunion (I had a good excuse), because I went into early labor and delivered my little boy on the same day as the reunion.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the 20th High School reunion and I know that I will be less nervous now that I already keep in touch with so many from the years before.

Some people think that with the popularity of social networking sites, attendance will be less at reunions since everyone is connected with those they prefer to know about.  They don’t see the point in having a formal gathering when you stay informed.  However, some might feel more comfortable attending since their won’t be that awkwardness of not speaking to each other for many years.
