How Much Should You Pay Your Babysitter?

Most moms want to know what the going rate for paying a babysitter is since we all seem to need one at some point.  Care.com has a babysitter calculator that will help you figure out an amount to be competitive with other families in your area.

Factors that determine the hourly rate include your zip code, the amount of experience your babysitter has, and the number of kids you have.  For every additional child, the hourly rate increases by $1.00 per hour.

For my two kids and with a sitter having 2-5 years experience, my rate comes to $11.50 an hour.  A date-night including dinner and a movie can add up quickly!

You could always consider swap babysitting hours with a friend for free and you both would win.  Your kids would be entertained by having friends over plus you would get some hours by yourself.  It is harder to babysit swap at night with bedtime routines, but daytime or afternoons would work great!  So, consider doing a Saturday or Sunday afternoon swap for an early movie and dinner.

Isn’t the going rate $10 an hour for a sitter?
