Taste Test for the New Starbucks VIA Ready Brew Instant Coffee

Are you a Starbucks lover who always needs your fix?  Well, Starbucks has created its own version of instant coffee called the  Starbucks Via Ready Brew.  Now you can have coffee on the go, at work, or to bring along while traveling.

I received a sample packet of the Italian Roast flavor of the Starbucks Via Ready Brew and found it to be pretty good for instant coffee.  I added the packet to a cup of hot water and it mixed easily.  I enjoyed the ease of making a cup of coffee with little clean up.

After adding my creamer and sweetener, I found it to be not as good as freshly brewed coffee, but not a bad substitute.  The Italian Roast was a little strong for me and is advertised as “Extra Bold.”  I would rather have tried the Colombia flavor in Medium and would probably have really loved this product if the strength was right for me.

I was curious about using the Starbucks VIA Ready Brew for recipes such as making a mocha milkshake, homemade ice-cream and other yummy treats.  Starbucks VIA  has listed recipes from frosting, brownies, hot chocolate, cookies, and cakes to BBQ, steak marinade, and braised chicken.

The Starbucks VIA can be found in Starbucks stores and can be purchased online.  The cost online is $9.95 for 12 servings, so it definitely is more expensive than brewing your own coffee.

All in all, I did enjoy the VIA Ready Brew much more than the coffee found in hotel rooms and it is more like the real thing than former instant coffee.  I am sure that it would be a great substitute in the workplace if your employer doesn’t offer coffee or has a generic brand.

I will definitely continue brewing my own coffee, but will consider Starbucks VIA for traveling, when camping, or to experiment with recipes.
