I am in LOVE with Sports Authority! Shoe Warranty Plan Rocks!
Sports Authority is an athletic store which sells sporting equipment, clothing and shoes. I purchased my running shoes from Sports Authority last May and purchased the new warranty plan they were offering. Since my shoes were in the $50-$99 range, the warranty was for $9.99. Since I I saved more than that with a coupon I decided to buy it.
I know, you are thinking I got suckered into something and I thought that after buying it, but the cashier was very convincing. The cashier explained that it was no hassle and that within one year I could bring my shoes in and either trade them for another new pair of shoes. Since I buy athletic shoes at least once a year, I figured I would test out their “Too Good To Be True” shoe warranty.
Since it has been 10 months from the purchase date and the shoes has some wear, I brought them into the store with my receipt and warranty. They just took my shoes, looked at my receipt and told me to find another pair of shoes. She told me I would get a store credit for the original amount of the purchase cost. If I bought a more expensive pair, I would pay the difference and if I bought a cheaper pair then I would get a store credit.
I was really prepared for them to hassle me and tell me that my shoes didn’t fall into the warranty guidelines, but I was pleasantly surprised. I couldn’t believe how EASY and PAINLESS the process was. Even more, I can’t believe that for the $10 extra warranty cost, I was able to trade in my old shoes for a new pair. It’s almost like renting shoes.
So, I traded the old shoes for a new pair and just paid the $9.99 for another year warranty for the new pair. So yes, you can get another warranty for the second pair of shoes! I don’t know how they are making money off of this, but I guess people forget to do it or lose the receipt paperwork.
If the shoes cost between $29.99-$49.99 the warranty is $4.99, between $50-$99.99 the warranty is $9.99, and costs $15.99 for items between $100-$199.99.
We will be heading back to Sports Authority this week to purchase new shoes for my husband, of course with a warranty. The warranties are only available for adult shoes, not children’s shoes.
Tip: Keep your shoe warranty attached to the receipt in your sock drawer and then you will know where to find it.

I was told(sold) the same thing when I purchased a pair of shoes for my nephew. He goes through shoes like most people go through socks. I thought it was absolutely brilliant until my brother tried to return the shoes, with the receipt and the warranty and well within the time period. He was told it did not work like that. He was told to contact the warranty company and he would have to ship the shoes back and they would send him a check for the shoes. No in-store exchanges at the Sports Authority in Webster, TX.

A friend of mine recently went to exchange hers and she said the policy has change. They let her exchange one pair in the store, but from now on, she will have to ship them and then they will send her a check. So, they told her you get one “in-store” exchange per customer, and then any future ones need to be through the mail. I am bummed about the new policy of having to ship them out. I will be doing it in the next few months, so we will see how it goes.
