The Best Trash Bags

I usually buy trash bags based on what is on sale at the time of needing more bags, but now I will reconsider which brand to buy.

The March 2010 Consumer Reports Magazine just arrived which featured a comparison between the Glad ForceFlex verses Hefty Ultra Flex bags.

The test conducted included 16 pounds of wood and metal pieces and then two 10lb and one 5lb weights were added.  Ten bags of each brand were used in the test.

Results:  The Hefty bags held the metal and wood parts, even though some pieces did poke out and they were also able to hold the additional 25lbs.  However, none of the Glad ForceFlex could hold up to the test and some dumped the material before the weight was added.

The Hefty bags were reported to be 1.3 thousands of an inch thick with the Glad being 1.05, which might be why the Hefty bags were able to withstand the testing conditions.  The box of 25 Hefty bags cost $7.99 while 25 of the Glad bags cost $9.99.

Therefore, save your money and purchase the stronger trash bag.  Be glad if you are already using the Hefty trash bag since you are not only saving money, but getting the better quality.
