What are Soy Candles?

Soy Lotion Candle
You might have seen soy candles out in many of the stores lately, but do you know how they compare to the normal paraffin candles we often see in department stores?
- Soy candles are made from soy wax which is biodegradable
- Soy candles burn longer, so you get more candle for your money (most up to 50% longer)
- Soy candles burn cleaner - they create very little soot since they are not toxic
- Soy candles are said to have a “cleaner scent” since chemicals aren’t being released with the burning candle
- Wax spills from soy candles are said to clean easier by just using soap and water
- Soy candles do liquefy when they are burned, so they are commonly sold in glass containers. If you purchase a soy pillar, make sure you follow directions when burning it.
Some companies have started selling soy “blended” candles which may only be partially soy and partially paraffin or beeswax.
By the way, the candle above is called a Soy Lotion Candle. The warm soybean wax (oil) can be used to moisturize small areas of your body such as cuticles, hands, feet, elbows, and knees.
