Are You Using Twitter? The Basics to Help You Get Started
Twitter is one of those things that many businesses, bloggers, organizations and high tech people are using, but I haven’t found many friends using it personally who don’t fall into one of these categories. After using it for almost a month, I have realized it is for anyone who likes to chat and/or stay informed.
Before blogging, my husband suggested for me to set up a Twitter account and I frankly thought it was not for me. He even showed me some examples of his incoming “tweets” and again, I didn’t buy into it. Honestly, I didn’t quite understand it.
After starting ChattyGal.com and going to the Blog World Expo, I decided that it was a must in this field even though I was a little intimidated. I created my account @ChattyGalBlog and started slowing by “following” a few people who I know and the blogs I read.
Twitter 101 Information:
- Twitter is a free service and you can create an account at Twitter.com
- After you register, you can modify your profile information, image, and bio.
- On the “Home” tab you will see the question “What are you doing?” You can post this update or make a comment that will be sent to those who are following you. If you don’t have any “followers,” that’s okay, because the longer you use twitter, the more followers you will get.

- When you post this update, it is considered a “tweet.” A “tweet” is composed of 140 characters or less.
- You can include website links in your tweets as well. Twitter converts long website links into “tiny urls” since you are limited with the amount of characters. TwitPic allows you to post a picture to twitter using a “tiny url.”
