Twitter 101 and the Basics…Part 2

This is part 2 for Twitter 101. If you missed the first article on Twitter Basics, you might want to read it before continuing.

When I first joined Twitter, I didn’t write status updates since I didn’t have any followers.  I just started following others, (my husband, my Pastor, and a few bloggers).  Yes…even my 60-something year old Pastor tweets!  As I replied to their comments, I gradually gained followers.

Through my blog and now having met others who use twitter, I keep increasing the amount of followers that I have as well as the amount of people I follow. So now when I “tweet,” it isn’t just to myself. 

How do you find people to follow?
First of all, you can start by following me @ChattyGalBlog.  This will give you some idea of how to use Twitter and you can start receiving tweets!

After logging in, just click on “Find People” and you can enter the names of people, organizations, and business. Some people also enjoy following favorite television shows and magazines like Oprah, Rachel Ray, SELF, Fitness Magazine, and news shows.  It is also great for following favorite stores so you can be in the know about the latest sales.

Some people and businesses have a massive amount of followers, but don’t feel intimidated by that. Everybody starts with ZERO in the beginning.  Some people use different marketing techniques to gain a large amount of followers with promotions, contests, and giveaways.

You can always “unfollow” people or businesses that you have previously followed in case you don’t enjoy receiving their messages.  You do have the option to “block” someone from following you if for some reason something on their profile seems to bother you.  Don’t feel intimidated by twitter because you can decide to stop using it if it doesn’t work for you.
